We didn't set out to start a club.

The Antisocial Car Club has had many different members and configurations over the years. At its core, it is a group of friends who like to go on long road trips in the search of the perfect driving road.

We call ourselves "antisocial" because while we do our trips as a group, each person has their own car and space to think their own thoughts during the drive. We use walkie talkies (tuned to channel 23 because nobody likes you when you're 23) to communicate and will stop after a particularly good section of road and gush about the experience.

The first trip

ASCC started with Kendall and Matt who decided they both wanted to go a little farther than the rest of their friends when on a spirited drive out by Julian, CA. They had a good time and decided the next step was to take a multi-day trip throughout California and Nevada. On that trip they discovered that they both really liked long drives and hanging out together.

That trip started in Southern California after work on a Thursday and hit several of the routes on this site including Lockwood Valley Road and Hudson Ranch Road while the guys made their way to a very sketchy Motel 6 in Coalinga.

Before dawn they were up to drive Carmel Valley Road and visit Laguna Seca before a Cars & Coffee at Canepa Motorsports started. After the C&C they joined a several hour-long shop walk hosted by the fabulous John Ficarra.

The day continued with their first drive up Mount Hamilton Road to Lick Observatory, then down the other side to the Central Valley at Patterson. The guys fueled up and decided to push on through Gold Country on Route 4 through Ebbetts Pass to Carson City, NV where they arrived at their hotel around midnight after a late dinner at a Denny's.

After a little bit of a sleep-in, the guys drove around Lake Tahoe and then sprinted home starting with Monitor Pass and then down 395 to Southern California. The format of a multi-day trip, long hours on boring "transit" roads to find truly special roads suited to their driving style was born on that trip and is carried on to the present.

Down the road

Our group grew when Kallen, Kendall's brother joined us on a three day trip to Arizona. The group grew again when Alden, Matt's brother joined the group on a tour of the best roads in Southern California. We also have a few folks like Levi, Asaiah, and Danny who have joined us for a drive or two.

As the years have passed, we've come up with a rhythm of one big, multi-day trip each year, usually in the Fall after school starts, with a few optional short trips day trips at other points in the year. Matt comes up with the routes each year, but refuses to be the guy who decides where we're going to eat our meals.

Most of the time we start in Southern California, but we've done several trips to other states including Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Oregon. Two of our members live in Idaho, so there's often a transit day to/from Idaho to keep things interesting. In 2025 Kendall flew up to Sacramento and met Matt there to do a NorCal/Southern Oregon route. One year, nobody could make it, so Matt had the most antisocial of trips by himself.

This website is a record of some of the routes we've used over the years and includes some of our favorites. We hope this is a resource for you as you discover roads

What we rate

Every route in our collection is rated across three dimensions:

  • Road Surface — because a great road with a terrible surface is just punishment.
  • Twistiness — straight roads are motorways. We're here for the corners.
  • Traffic — the best road in the world becomes a car park if everyone knows about it. We try to be honest.

Ratings are submitted by real members who have actually driven the road. Averages update as more members weigh in. No algorithm, no sponsored placements — just honest opinions from people who care.

Who can join

Anyone can browse the collection — the roads we find are worth sharing with the world. But submitting ratings, adding new routes, and joining the conversation is for members only.

We don't have an open sign-up. Membership is by invitation from the admin. If you think you belong here, let us know why and we'll talk!
