California Route 1 North of the Bay Area is a beautiful road with fun tight-technical sections and stunning coastal scenery—rivers, headlands, ocean views.
In a world without other people, this would score really highly, but traffic is always a problem. You'll encounter slow drivers who *never* pull over while maintaining a 15mph pace. These people will ruin your spirited driving enjoyment. Things only get worse with a line of cars stack up behind one of these drivers because there's no hope of passing.
Approach it as a scenic cruise, not a driver's road and you'll have a lovely time. This is best in the spring when everything is green, and in the afternoon/evening; nothing beats watching the sunset while cruising along with the windows down.
Traffic: 5 = empty road, 1 = very busy.
