This lovely little route starts near downtown Boise and heads up into the mountains to the Bogus Basin ski area. The route has two very twisty sections, the lower as you're leaving Boise and the upper around the Stack Rock trail. The not-as-twisty sections in between are also fantastic. Road surface is good and there are plenty of 3rd->2nd shifts; there are even a few hairpins.
This is best driven in the Spring and Fall shoulder seasons between Bogus' winter skiing and summer downhill mountain bike riding when the road is full of drivers heading up to the ski area. Additionally, there are usually a fair number of hikers on the weekends, so if you're doing the drive on a Saturday or Sunday early morning is your best bet. My favorite is a mid-week mid-day drive just before lunchtime.
Traffic: 5 = empty road, 1 = very busy.
