California 58 out of McKittrick (off Hwy 33)

About 6 out of 15 miles are genuinely excellent — very tight, very technical, with some great 10mph hairpins and good elevation gain. Road surface is excellent. You can continue towards the 101, but the best section is the Eastern approach to top of the pass.

Traffic can be mixed; we've encountered slow drivers on this run but they often pull over.

If you're heading back East, GPS will try to route you on Reward road. Don't listen to it; the road is really bad from all the heavy trucks driving it. Stay on 58 back to 33 and you'll be much happier.

This is well worth a stop when driving between I-5 and 101 in the central California area.
