California 198 - Coalinga to Airline Highway Cutoff

This is a lovely transit stage between the Central Valley and the 101. It is very fun when you're able to miss traffic with fast sweepers, tight sections, good elevation changes, and a blind hilltop turn. However traffic is the big issue. On almost every run we've done, we encounter a lot of slow vehicles. Late afternoon or early morning are good times to avoid traffic.

The road surface is mixed. The first half has a beautiful surface while the second half has significant patchwork and washout damage.
