Angeles Crest is a high-traffic and yet charming mountain road full of fun twists and turns. It's a favorite of the greater Southern California car community and is featured on many YouTube channels and car blogs. Additionally, it provides access to a ton of outdoor recreational areas. This means that like many of the roads on our list, finding a day/time where you don't have much traffic is difficult, but if you can put yourself in a "I'm on a Sunday drive" mindset, you'll have a lovely time.
Angeles Crest has issues staying open in recent years. It was completely open briefly in Summer of 2025, but has since been closed after the Three Points area. This was after a long closure at the Mount Wilson turn-off (although you could take Upper Big Tujunga Canyon road to get around the closed section).
Generally the road surface is okay, some spots have been recently resurfaced, while others are in serious need of resurfacing.
You can do this as an out-and-back, or string it together with Upper and Lower Big Tijunga Canyon for a loop (although those roads are frequently closed, too, so check the LA DOT and CalTrans road conditions sites).
Traffic: 5 = empty road, 1 = very busy.
