Oregon 245 Near Baker City

A lovely little gem well off the beaten path, the 245 near Baker City is one of the better driving roads in this part of the country. The road climbs out of a valley to the Unity Forest State Park at the top of a ridge. The climb up is fun, but the real magic happens after the summit as the road starts snaking back and forth along the ridge on the way down hill.

Road surface is medium to poor with lots of gravel down from the hills. Watch for cattle as it's an open range.

There is usually very little traffic, and if you do get stuck, just turn around and run back the way you came; you'll want to do the route several times anyway!
